Gothic Princess

August 3, 2010

Laura’s Blog Entry

The other day I mentioned my Gothic princess had ordered a dress from Japan with her birthday money. Her love of Japanese anime has brought her to Japanese fashion which has brought her to a Gothic Lolita dress. Gothic Lolita, for those of you that don’t run in the Goth circles, is a sub-genre for women who like to dress up like little girls. Which is slightly creepy, unless you actually are a little girl and then it is OK. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Anyway, the dress is here and it is beautiful. We celebrated by taking a picnic to Spring Grove Cemetery for a photo shoot. I’ve written about this amazing cemetery and botanical garden before. It is a wonderful spot to take photos. The break in the summer heat made for a perfect day.

We hit our favorite spot at the top of the hill, the grave of Jacob Hoffner.

As we drove around we also found a lovely bench area we hadn’t ever noticed before.

Last stop was the Gothic cathedral, the Dexter Memorial.

Yes the teen years are nearly here. We just can’t believe our good fortune that she is embracing the Gothiness of it all. Next week she may be on to punk, but we’ll always have this moment to cherish…

Is “cute” an appropriate compliment for goth princesses?

These shots are beautiful, especially the one in front of the cathedral!
