Yarn Along – 2/1/17
I may not have finished my socks, but I wrapped up two books and an audio book this week!
First up, I finished The Red Notebook, by Antoine Laurain. Charming, short little read. Lovely story. Great pace. Highly recommend.
Secondly, the ebook version expired from the library before I could finish The Beautiful Mystery. It is book eight in the Inspector Gamache mystery series by Louise Penny.
I do enjoy this series, but I find the books that take place outside of Three Pines are not my favorite. This one takes place in a remote monastery. The idea of the story is interesting – murder in a closed community of monks – but I had trouble getting into it. The pace was slow. I finally got a print copy from the library so I could finish it and the ending was a bit of a shocker! Interesting turn to the overarching story, but man, it made me sad. But I do want to find out what happens next, so I guess Louise Penny knows what she is doing!
Thirdly, yes there is a thirdly, I finished the audio version of Among the Mad, by Jacqueline Winspear. This is number six in the Maisie Dobbs series. I like a series! The audio versions of these books are very well done. This story was good, but I did realize that I have an aversion in a mystery when part of the story is told from the viewpoint of the killer. I don’t like that at all! This has a bit of that, but not enough to put me off it entirely.
I feel so accomplished! Three books! Weird how it worked out they all finished at the same time! I have a feeling it has something to do with the chaotic political climate. Books are a welcome break… then it is back to staying informed and planning useful action.
Socks are handspun and the pattern is Socks on a Plane, but with an afterthought heel. Two heels and I’m done with these puppies!
