Yarn Along – 8/3/16

August 3, 2016

Knitting: Finished my sweater. (Post on that is soon to come!) So I finally could cast on my handspun for the Void shawl by Melanie Berg.

I love the look of it, but the pattern is on the challenging side with fiddly twisted stitches and some bundled stitches.

The yarn is a handspun worsted weight in a merino/silk blend from Fiber Optic Yarns. Gorgeous stuff.

The yarn is a little challenging in this pattern because it is so fluffy and soft and the pattern has some more complicated twisted stitches, but as long as I keep my tension loose enough it is going pretty easily now that I am on the third pattern repeat. The stitches have a lovely texture and form a triangle pattern.

I plan to shorten the length and will play that by ear as I go. I am not very tall and the shawl in the pattern photos seems a bit too long for me. This will be a long-term knit, so I am settling in for a leisurely pace.

Reading: I started Louise Penny’s A Trick of the Light, which is Inspector Gamache #7. The story is very focused on the art world and I am loving her descriptions of the paintings. I feel like I can really see them! Great summer read. I am also listening to a post apocalyptic dystopian audio book (WHY?). The jury is out, so I will refrain from sharing just yet. It is keeping me entertained as I drive my daughter to and from work, so I guess I will keep plugging away.

It is countdown to college drop-off around here, so we’ll see how much brain space I have for knitting a complicated pattern. Progress may be spotty for a few weeks!

Beautiful yarn! Wow. And, I read one Inspector Gamache story this summer, I am looking forward to reading more this fall!

That shawl is going to be lush! And I really like the louise penney books, they’re my guilty pleasure when I manage to find them at a discount store.
