Yarn Along – 4/27/16

April 27, 2016

How’s your week going? Last week’s Spring Cleaning has carried over into this week. That’s OK. Better late than never!

I made good progress on my Business Casual Socks. Both are past the waste yarn for the afterthought heel. Yarn is Knit Picks Hawthorne Kettle Dye in color Goddess.

I also am trying to really make some headway on my first fancy fiber to spin, a merino/silk blend that is really lovely. This is my second bobbin that I just started.

The first bobbin is waiting to be plied, sitting with my audio version of Ready Player One. Can’t wait to start on the book today!

As I mentioned last week, it is read by Wil Wheaton, and is a story of a post-apocalyptic near future involving a real-life video game. Time to plug in my earphones and sit down at the wheel!

Those socks are stunning, and wow, Knit Picks yarn does colors like that now? Gorgeous!

Yes, they are keeping up with the trends! There are nice kettle dyes, variegated, and now they are even getting into speckles recently.

Spring cleaning is always a good thing! I love your fiber – I bet that will make a super soft yarn.

Love love LOVE those socks. Perfect pattern for that yarn. I don’t even like purple that well, but that’s just gorgeous. And your spinning!!!! So lovely!! I think it’s great that you are spinning with a project in mind. I don’t always do that, but it always feels great when I do. Makes the spinning more meaningful somehow.

Thank you! I’d like to feel all virtuous about spinning for a project – but we’ll see how it works out! I am hoping to ply some samples and hopefully get the worsted weight the project calls for. Luckily it’s a shawl so I can be a bit flexible on the gauge. What I am really hoping for is to spin for socks!

Socks are on my short list of items to knit. My daughter has been asking for a pair of socks for a little while. I plan to make her some out of my handspun yarn.

Your spinning looks great? I’m a new spinner, I started spinning this past February. Currently, I have merino top roving (15.5 micron) on Ruth, my Kromski Sonata. I’m finally at the point where my yarn is consistent. I’m currently spinning fingering weight yarn.

How exciting to have achieved fingering weight with your spinning! That is one of my goals for sure!
