Yarn Along – 2/24/16

Well the sun has come out again and I am feeling more like a normal person. End of February is a killer. I am working hard to refill my Etsy shop after a great holiday season at at the end of last year.

As a little “fun” knitting between the work projects I decided to put together a quick tea cozy to fit my smaller teapots. I needed something in the pastel shades to coordinate with my floral tray and pastel teapots so I found a little peachy-pink worsted weight wool in my leftovers bin. Knitted in a dense garter stitch it should insulate really well. If I have enough yarn I think I will do a matching teapot coaster to go underneath as well. I like my tea HOT.

Pattern is Tea Cozy by Lily / Sugar’n Cream. Yarn is Patons Classic Wool in discontinued colorway Water Chestnut.

I recently read an historical fiction book for my book club, Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline. It is an interesting story of a woman who was transported west on an orphan train to be assigned to a mid-western family. I was unfamiliar with the orphan train movement of the mid-1800s through the 1920s. I liked the interweaving of the story of the modern-day girl, Molly, who is aging out of the foster care system and Vivian, the older woman (the orphan train-rider) who is now in her 90s. It made for a good discussion in my group, especially about societal customs and how they influence people’s decisions.

Hope it is sunny where you are! Oh, and in case you are interested, I am stocked up on three sizes of the project bag shown above. I am upcyling denim and combining it with some cute prints for convenient zipper pouches. Great for knitting projects of various sizes as well as cosmetics and anything else that needs a pouch!

What a beautiful color! And Orphan Train sounds like a great book! I’ve added it to my ever growing list of books to read. 🙂
