Yarn Along – 6/3/15

June 3, 2015

Thought I would share something new today. When I need something a little different to work on, that doesn’t require counting like my shawl or small stitches on size 0 needles for socks, I have been picking up a crochet project.

A few years ago I crocheted a bathmat and I really love it. It was made with two strands of basic, dishcloth cotton, held double. I am surprised how well it has worn! Being a light color, it does require frequent washing, so I decided to do another so I can alternate them.

The pattern is from One Skein: 30 Quick Projects to Knit or Crochet by Leigh Radford. This time I am using Peaches and Creme 100% Cotton in White.

I generally have a bit of trouble setting up a crochet project. The first few rows are always hard to manipulate and I am not that experienced with reading crochet stitches. But once I get it going I am fine. It is hard on my hands to work with the large hook and heavy yarn (and just crochet in general is harder on my hands) but a few rows here and there are fine. It’ll eventually get finished.

My audio book is Though Not Dead, the 18th book in the Kate Shugak Alaska series by Dana Stabenow.  I almost gave up on this series. The last two books had story lines I wasn’t that engaged in. I am so glad I gave one more a try! This may have been my favorite of the series! after 17 books there are lots of characters you get to know. This book told the backstory of a bunch of them, which was really fun! I loved learning new things about people who have been around since the beginning of the series, as well as the usual Alaska history Stabenow generally throws in. I believe there are two more I haven’t read, so I plan to finish them off after all!

Summer reading program started yesterday at our library and word is there’s a cool tote bag to be won. Luckily audiobooks count. I am on it!

Yeah I like the cotton underfoot and it has kind of a spa-like feeling in the white. It’s fun and chunky!
