Yarn Along – 5/20/15

May 20, 2015

Laura’s Blog Entry

Last time on the Yarn Along…

I was going to try to finish my Aise shawl in a week. Well, it took me two weeks, but it is finished and blocked! I’ll do a separate entry for that in the next few days. What is yarning along right now is my Another Door Opens Shawl.

Pattern is by Sara Bauer. Yarn is Yarn is Manos del Uruguay Fino in color 404, Watered Silk. I am at 60%. All is going well, but the rows are getting longer and slower.

I finally caved in and bought The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. The library wait is 247 holds on 97 copies! Even though we did a total purge for our move two years ago, I do struggle with accumulation. And saving things that might be useful. Lots of people (and I mean lots) on podcasts and blogs are having wonderful experiences applying Marie’s method, so I thought I would give the book a try.

Just reading for the moment. I’ll purge later in the summer. It’s an easy read and it does fire you up to make changes.

Love the colour, it is a similar colour to the one I have just finished.

Yes, her book is such a sensation! I wonder how many cleaned out closets and drawers will happen this summer? Mine will be included… 🙂 Love, love the color of your shawl!

I keep seeing this book— and it’s similar here. I’ll be waiting for a year to get my hands on it! We’re going through quite a purging period and it feels great to really get minimalist and make sure the things we have are the things we love. Perhaps I’ll break down and get this book, though (ironic? Maybe. ;p)

This book is coming up everywhere! I’m getting rather curious about the whole thing myself 😉
Your new project is coming along very nicely – that colour is simply adorable!!

I have really mixed opinions on this book! I am reading it and about 1/4 of the way through. I feel like she’s kind of self-centered or something like that.. something about her tone of writing bothers me but I really like her basic premise so I am going to finish reading it and will apply her method later this summer too.
Love your yarn, it looks like it’s a beautiful color!

Yes I wonder if that might be something in the translation, perhaps? Sometimes that gives writing an odd tone. I agree – I like her basic premise and I am hoping it will help me part with some things. We shall see!
