Fred and George Socks

July 14, 2010

Laura’s Blog Entry

These were really fun to make. I do love a toe-up sock. The striping is very satisfying as it rolls off the needles. The opposite color bands on the cuffs and toes are nifty. Very fun for a twelve-year-old. And the fit for her turned out fantastic.

The pattern is a free download on Ravelry. The yarn I used is Panda Silk Solid from Crystal Palace Yarns. It is a merino wool, bamboo and silk blend. Delicious! I love this yarn. So much that I didn’t mind knitting these on size one needles. In teeny, tiny little stitches.

Because I made these pretty long I did add some calf increases on the sides. Other than that, I followed the pattern.

Oh did you get the Harry Potter tie-in? The socks are named for the Weasley Twins, Fred and George. Nothing beats a literary reference in your socks, aye?
