Laura’s Blog Entry

Ever since we were released from the clutches of school and dance recitals, Mari and I have been having a blast. Poor Neil has been slogging away at work, poor sod, but the girl and I have been enjoying lots of time together.

She has been BEGGING me to teach her to sew on the machine. After a copious amount of convincing on my part, she agreed to a simple skirt pattern with an elastic waist. I wanted to do something fast so she would avoid too much frustration on her first project and have something to wear right away.

After pouring over the Burda Style website, we decided on the Lazy Days Skirt – no pattern required! It was perfect. We are planning a photo session at the park to show off her mad skills.

She learned to use the machine, and the iron to press the hems and crease the folds.

She did an amazing job!

She also wanted to learn a few other things… like using the oven to bake chocolate chip cookies…

… and how to brew a pot of tea.

This kid is getting really quite useful in her near-teen years!
