Saving Up for Everything “Wrong”

March 5, 2009

Can’t tell you how happy we are around the Smith household about Depeche Mode’s new video. We talk about it at length on the March podcast, but I wanted to embed it here as well. I experience this as more of a short film than a music video.

Please note that it is rather intense and tells a disturbing story, but has no images that are unsafe for work.

Beautifully shot and edited, this is a real winner. Depeche Mode has really gone to a new level with their visuals and it is wonderful to see them pushing boundaries with this.

On a lighter note, this in-studio clip seems the polar opposite of the music video. Martin is doing a little impromptu version of “What a Wonderful World.”

One more for you. Here Martin comments on the band’s “fruity” reputation and then he Dave goof around a bit.

I am thrilled to say I got my order in for my Deluxe Box Set of Sounds of the Universe. I feel it is reasonably priced and can be preordered from

Also available for preorder is the limited edition book: Martin L. Gore: Lays, which is coming out in April.

It translates many of Martin’s lyrics into French and includes some illustrations by Klaus Voorman, specially created for the book. Voorman did the illustration for the cover of the Beatles Revolver album. Can’t wait to get a look at the book.

Here is a review that was posted on Amazon from Johnny Marr of The Smiths:

I think of Martin as part of that lineage that started with Roxy Music and T.Rex. Glamour and romance wrapped up in great tunes. Some of his records stand up alongside the great British singles.

Well said, Mr. Marr. OK, I’m off to dig some ditches or something to pay for all of this stuff. And it’s worth every backbreaking minute.
