A Faire Day in the Realm

October 6, 2008

Laura’s Blog Entry

Saturday we headed out on our yearly pilgrimage to the Renaissance Faire. Nothing like paying good money for people in period dress to yell at me in an English accent. This is the stuff that fantasies are made of. Just substitute black feather wings for period dress. But I digress.

Things were pretty much as we remembered. Nothing much has changed at the faire. They do now take Lady Visa and Master Card. And the chick at the boot shop was giving out her MySpace. But all in all it is very authentic. Right down to ye olde wench having to put down her Blackberry in order to sell us a lemon ice.

Tasty food was eaten by all. You can never ingest too many foods on a stick. If you don’t need cutlery the calories totally don’t count, right? You can get steak on a stick. The King’s Weenie on a stick. Chocolate covered cheese cake… you guessed it… on a stick! One may also sample The King’s Nuts. Not on a stick, but I fear for the poor king’s anatomy. Really.

Mari loves to shop in the stores. This time she aquired some decorative wrist scarves, or whatever they are called, to match her princess gown. Thanks to the lovely Jessica for passing along her costumes to Mari.

She also got to ride a horse.

And she is pretty serious about her archery.

And here is a little photo of the one item we wish we could have taken home:

Can skulls be considered pretty? Cause this one really is.

A lovely fall day out. Followed by a massive nap. I ask you, what is a more perfect weekend?

Those skulls were pretty amazing. I kinda liked the Terminator-themed one although it’s completely out of place at the RenFest. I’m very saddened that I can no longer eat the beef stew bread bowl and the only vegetarian alternative they have is black bean soup. That generic overpriced Dinty Moore beef stew in a rapidly stale-ing bread bowl was my absolute favorite part of the trip. Other than that, it was a fun day out for us as well.

Ha! We had the stew. I thought I saw a sign for portobello burgers maybe. There’s always funnel cakes. Surely not vegan, but no meat. Glad you guys had fun!

Love that the dress worked out. Mari looks very princess-sy!

I’m just glad to see it getting some use! Props to my mommy for making it. 😉
