Hurricane Smurricane

September 15, 2008

Laura’s Blog Entry

What? Two posts in one day? Overachiever tendencies coming through. Thought I’d post some photos from the drama of yesterday’s visit from hurricane Ike. Many parts of Cincinnati were hit hard. The wind was crazy strong. Power is out in a widespread area. School was canceled today and Neil’s office was closed due to the power outage. We remained safe and sound and relatively undisturbed in our little neighborhood bubble. Everyone around us has power out. But we endure. The voice of Kennedy Heights, yo.

We have minor debris in our yard, and a few loose shingles. Here’s the entirety of the damage:

And Neil, who hates heights, got up there and fixed it. My hero.

Dearest Smiths, my geography of the USA is rubbish so I never realised the Texan storm was going to affect you. Thankfully you weren’t too badly damaged but it must have been scary. Hope you are all ok now, at least Mari got a day off school. Every storm has a silver lining eh! xx

That’s the weird thing about it! Usually once the hurricane gets this far inland it is just a rainstorm. Apparently (according to Neil) the eye of the storm went over us so we just got wind and no rain. I blame global warming. And Republicans.

We personally avoided any damage (though a tree in the lot next door came down). There were some nice fires downtown though. I snapped some pictures:
