Go Cincinnati

May 22, 2008

Video Blog Entry

This past Saturday the three of us took part in a 4000 volunteer citywide service project called Go Cincinnati. It is a yearly event in our city that is just a small part of a larger and more global effort to eliminate poverty.

Our project was picking up trash in the West End of downtown Cincinnati. This is a very interesting neighborhood of the city in which we have not spent a lot of time.

Over the years, it has fallen into disrepair. We were told that one of the streets we cleaned, Dayton, used to be millionaire row. There are some amazing stone mansions there that have seen better days. There are some homes that have been bought and restored, but the neighborhood is a mix of poverty, decayed opulence, and renewal. We hope to be a part of bringing those very different elements to a place of healing.

Below is a video that is just a slice of what we experienced. We started the day at a big kick-off rally. Then we drove down and got to work. I think the thing about the day that impacted me most was the fact that so many people got up crazy-early and gave up their Saturday morning to do things like this all over our city. Many organizations came together and this unity seems to be key in eliminating poverty.

Please note that no hair and makeup people were used in the creation of this footage. Neil and I are horrified with our appearance on camera. We now have a rule that we can only record each other from a distance of 6-8 feet. NO MORE CLOSEUPS. SHUDDER.

Thanks, Andrew! She is stylin. That was my first attempt at iMovie. I cut the clips together and added transitions. Then Neil had to tweak it, and tweak it, and tweak it. Oh well. He’s the professional after all!

    More video to come!

So fun and stop you are all adorable. I would have laughed my ass off if Mari had replied to your asking what she did with the toothbrush “I brushed my teeth with it mommy!” How was the fried chicken? Fried chicken is my all-time favorite! Love those legs and wings all crispy and fried up….YUM!
