A Capital Weekend

July 8, 2007

Laura’s Blog Entry

Neil and I had a little romantic get-away this weekend. Some friends were coming to a nearby city for a gaming convention, so we packed up and went to join them during their off hours. It was in the wonderful city of Columbus, Ohio, our state capital. Not necessarily the first place that come to mind for an early anniversary celebration, but we had a fantastic time there.

Friday night we met up with Bob and Heather and headed out for some nightlife. We don’t get out much, but when we do we make the most of it! We enjoyed drinks and appetizers at the Columbus Brewing Company.

Neil really liked the Columbus Apricot Ale very much. It was not too fruity… because Neil doesn’t like beer that is too fruity… and he loved the wings. And they had a fun mix of music playing – we even heard “Strangelove,” which meant it was going to be a good night.

After that Bob and Heather agreed to go along with us to a local goth / alternative club called Outland Night Club.

It is a very cool goth industrial club way at the back of an old shopping center. Thank goodness I checked their site before going or we never would have found it way around the back. I got a nice poster there for Client’s new album, Heartland.

And the collection grows!

Like I said, we don’t get out much, but when we do, we do it up right. We had an amazing time there. I highly recommend it if you want a fun night of dancing, drinking and people watching. The DJ was so nice to play Depeche Mode for us. Heather and I did meet through the DM message board, so it was only fitting! He even came over and wished us a happy anniversary. We will definitely be going back there at our first opportunity.

Me, dancing. No, I’m not the one with the arm in the cast – that’s me farther back. You know, the one wearing black!

We also got in lots of movie watching, knitting and crochet. And lots of yummy food. I needed a vegetarian-food-herbal-tea fix on Saturday, so we made a stop at The Benevolence Café for lunch.

I enjoyed some soup and their Grains of the Goddess Bread. My favorite thing was the Sassafras Iced Tea. Delicious! Then we went and got Neil some NY style pizza at the North Market, a very cool place full of vendors selling ethnic cuisine and ingredients.

It was a great weekend – couldn’t have asked for better. There is nothing as good as eating, drinking and laughing like crazy at a fun bar with new friends. Thanks Bob and Heather for thinking to invite us along on your trip!

In honor of DM, Heather and I had to get a photo in our DMOCD shirts.

Finally, I caught the last few seconds of the sunset last night…

Thanks, Columbus. Ohio can be very cool!

Hello hello! We had lots of fun this weekend! 😀 Thanks again for meeting up with us, and for showing us your in-car navigator. That was so cool. Geez, my hair is really, really red, and out of control. Time for a haircut. Special thanks to Mari for giving up Mom and Dad for a weekend… they work hard and deserved a little vacation. 🙂

Your hair is fabulous, darling! Don’t know why I look so pensive. Just sad to see the trip end, I guess!
