Rock the Square

June 30, 2007

Laura’s Blog Entry

It was square; and it rocked! We went downtown early last evening for an outdoor show by the newly renovated fountain. It looked beautiful, although I couldn’t get a good photo of the whole thing due to the sunlight. Here is a little detail:

Luckily the weather cooperated and we were neither seared by the sun nor rained upon. We saw Hungry Lucy do a nice set – including a long-awaited performance of their Depeche Mode cover “Blue Dress.” Neil and I have always wanted to do a cover of this song together, and we were happy to find another twosome who did so. I love the song with a female vocal. It was the first song the two of them ever did together as a musical project. What a nice beginning!

Mari got to see them for the first time, and got to hear her favorite song, “Harvest.”

We hadn’t been to this part of downtown for a while, so it was nice to see the changes. Although I’m not so sure how I feel about the jumbotron. But it is good to know $3 beer was available until 8:30!

Finally, here’s the centerpiece of the downtown area, Carew Tower. Quite a lovely building, really.

Podcast out tomorrow, folks. See how calm I am? I’ll probably wake up in a cold sweat at midnight when it goes live…
